Three faculty members recently earned notable awards and honors.
ESPM professor Steve Beissinger received of the American Ornithologist Union’s 2010 William Brewster Memorial Award, which is given to an author or co-authors with the most meritorious body of work on birds of the Western Hemisphere in the ten-year period preceding the award. The annual prize honors one of the founding members of the AOU and consists of a medal and an honorarium.
The National Research Council recently appointed ESPM professor and current department chair Ron Amundson to the U.S. National Committee for the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS). The U.S. committee represents the interests of the American soil science community within the IUSS. Additionally, they provide national and international leadership in the advancement of soil science and advise the National Academies in all matters pertaining to the IUSS.
ESPM professor Allen Goldstein has been named a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU), a title that is conferred on no more than 0.1 percent of members each year. This recognition honors AGU members who have made exceptional contributions to earth and space sciences as evaluated by their peers and vetted by section- and focus- group committees. Primary criteria for evaluation in scientific eminence are major breakthroughs or discoveries, and paradigm shift.
