Research Description
How much is the environment worth? I am interested in how this question has increasingly come to preoccupy environmental practitioners around the world.
Currently, my research explores what it means to put a dollar value on nature, and the implications for environmental politics and policy. I use mixed ethnographic methods to pursue this idea in its various forms through different sites, scales, networks, and institutional contexts of environmental governance. Who is asking this question? For what purposes? Under what circumstances? My research asks what this emerging paradigm for making sense of nature represents and what it is made to do.
