I am an Assistant Cooperative Extension Specialist in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management at UC Berkeley focused on water justice policy and planning in California. My approach to research and extension employs mixed quantitative and qualitative methods and community-based research to tackle pressing questions related to the socio-political drivers of drinking water disparities leveraging a wide array of fields. I seek to advance our scholarly understanding of the causes of drinking water disparities, equity gaps in environmental policy implementation, and the role of social movements in addressing both, while also providing policy makers and advocates with information critical to advancing community-based solutions.
Research Description
Currently my research and extension program focuses on four interrelated topics: Leveraging water system consolidation and partnerships for equity and resilience; proactive climate adaptation among small water systems; supporting decentralized water users (e.g. domestic well owners); and the role of system governance in mediating service provision.
