Francis is a graduate student in the Society and Environment Division of ESPM. Focusing on biodiversity conservation in tropical southwest China, his research asks how conservation scientists and rural communities define ecological expertise and how understanding such definitions can illuminate the politics of sustainability. Farai is an interdisciplinary conservation scientist, bridging ecological and social science methods and theories to better understand and support decentralized ecosystem management systems. At Berkeley, Farai is a Chancellor’s Fellow and is exploring the links between community-based fisheries management and coral reef health.
