Paolo D'Odorico
Congratulations to Paolo D’Odorico, professor in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management (ESPM), for receiving the 2023 Hydrological Services Medal from the American Meteorological Society (AMS).
The award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the field, will be presented to D’Odorico during the AMS’ Annual Meeting in January 2023. It represents the highest honor the Society can bestow on an individual.
D’Odorico was recognized for seminal research on eco-hydrology and desertification, and for exploring the fragilities of the connected virtual water and food trade network. An ESPM professor since 2016, his research focuses on the role hydrological processes play in the function of terrestrial ecosystems. He currently investigates the globalization of water through virtual water trade and international land investments, and the impact those developments have on water equity, societal resilience, environmental stewardship, and food security.
In addition to receiving the award, D’Odorico will be named one of 24 new AMS fellows—a distinction only granted to less than 0.2% of all members each year.
