Congratulations to professor Nancy Peluso, who has been awarded the 6th Al-Moumin Award on Environmental Peacebuilding from the Environmental Peacebuilding Association.
Recipients of this award are recognized for their outstanding work addressing the complex relationships between the environment, conflict, and peace, from a local to a global scale. The award is named to honor Dr. Mishkat Al-Moumin, Iraq’s first Minister of Environment, a human rights and environmental lawyer, and an outspoken advocate for women’s rights.
Peluso’s research in the field of political ecology centers on the social, cultural, economic, and political factors that dictate access to and ownership of natural resources. Focused largely in Southeast Asia, her work examines the history of political forests and forest dwellers, land management, power relations, and violent conflict.
