Congratulations to Alejandra Echeverri, assistant professor in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management, on being named an Azrieli Global Scholar by the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR).
Established in 2016, the program provides early-career researchers who are recognized as rising stars in their field for their potential as future research leaders. Each scholar is supported by two years of research funding and an invitation to participate in one of CIFAR’s research programs.
Echeverri is an interdisciplinary conservation scientist who blends elements of ecology, conservation psychology, and other fields to understand how people and wildlife can thrive together in forested and agricultural landscapes. Her current research focuses on the role of biodiversity in driving tourism, and whether biodiversity and cultural diversity coincide in Colombian municipalities. She also works closely with Latin American governments to advise on sustainability and biodiversity policies.
As an Azrieli Global Scholar, Echeverri will join researchers from institutions in Canada, the United States, Chile, and the United Kingdom. She will contribute to CIFAR’s Future Flourishing research program, which is an interdisciplinary network of scholars and practitioners to imagine what it will take to create a better world for all of the entities that make up humans and live with us.
