I am broadly interested in the human role of creating or influencing spatial patterns and ecological processes, especially nutrient cycling, at landscape scale. Soil carbon stocks are rapidly changing due to human disturbances (i.e., climate change, land-use change, invasive species). I am interested in modeling the spatial and temporal dynamics of above- and below-ground carbon, which could help us identify ways to pro-actively prevent soil carbon loss from rangelands. My masters thesis looks at Ecological Site Description (ESD) and State-and-Transition model as a framework to describe carbon dynamics in mosaic of shrublands and grasslands in Tejon Ranch, CA.
