Margiana Petersen-Rockney receives Lawrence Busch Student Research Award

August 09, 2021

Congratulations to Margiana Petersen-Rockney, PhD candidate in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management, on receiving the Lawrence Busch Student Research Award. The award, granted by the Rural Sociological Society (RSS), supports student research with a strong and demonstrable focus on social issues related to food and agriculture.

Petersen-Rockney’s project, titled “Water is the Blood of the Land,” deals with climate change, conservation, and conflict among Northern California farmers. Her research more broadly focuses on social-ecological systems and climate change, rural livelihoods and crises, and public institutions and (in)equity.

RSS is a social science association that seeks to promote the generation, application, and dissemination of sociological knowledge. It works to enhance the quality of rural life, communities, and the environment. For more information about the RSS and the award, visit the RSS website.
