Brian Kastl holds over 15 years of experience leading freshwater research teams, spearheading coastal conservation projects, and teaching environmental leadership, spanning 12 countries. Through scientific innovations, capacity-building, and local knowledge, he is passionate about achieving co-benefits for nature and livelihoods. Brian particularly enjoys informing management and policy.
His current research guides the protection of endangered coho salmon. As an ORISE Fellow for the EPA, he is developing water temperature guidance for California and tribes. By sharing his findings with agencies and conservation groups, he co-develops solutions that increase salmon population resilience.
