 Graduate Student Research Hiring Timelines & Request Form

24-25 ESPM GSR Request Form from the BEST Region. The GSR request date will impact on-time pay. Please request at least 45 days in advance of the start date.

If you are rehiring a GSR, please use the current position number for their role. If you are making a new hire, and do not know the position number, please enter "0" on the line, an HR generalist will then fill this position in.

Fall GSR Hiring Period

Early July- all GSRs should be entered to avoid pay delays

Spring GSR Hiring Period

October - (prior to the spring semester) GSR request form is sent to faculty with a deadline (see above)

November 1 - Faculty completes requests; GSAO and RA authorize entry for HR processing

Hire a GSR  for Summer: June and July

Graduate Teaching Assistant Hiring & Application System

TA Requests and Hiring Process
 
ESPM will send out a message t0 faculty before the teaching semester about the number of TAs needed for their course. The request will be directed to the Vice Chair of Instruction who will determine, along with the department, the approved number of TAs to be allocated. 
Faculty will have the opportunity to rank applicants for these positions during the TA application period. The Hiring Committee will use these ranks to determine the best matches. Priority is given to ESPM students to meet department commitments. The Hiring Committee will ask faculty to rank as many applications as possible to facilitate the matching process.

To schedule a graduate course (ESPM 200 and above), please email espm_gradsupport@berkeley.edu with the following information:

  • Course number (Ex. ESPM 222)
  • Day/Times  (Ex. Mon/Wed 11am-11 am)
  • Enrollment cap (Ex. 22 students max)
  • Room preference (Ex. Wellman 306)

To request a student support award for a student and/or pay for tuition/fees, please email the GSAO and cc your Research Administrator the following information:

  • Student Name
  • Student ID or email address
  • Amount to be paid
  • Chartstring

Faculty, at least twice a month are required to review their CalCentral Pending Petitions forms to verify that they have completed all pending exceptions and petitions. Please reference the SIS job aids found at https://sis.berkeley.edu/instructors-0 for assistance. 

Shipping with FedEx or UPS

To ship things via FedEx/UPS and directly charge to a chart string, please work with your Research Administrator, they will be able to set up a FedEx/UPS account for you. To ship a large box through campus mail with a barcode, (please remember no hazmat or bio materials), it is best to drop it off at 54 Mulford.
